Wha-HUH?!

So this was unexpected (and awesome):

Best Comics-Related Periodical/Journalism
* Comic Book Resources, produced by Jonah Weiland
* The Comics Journal, edited by Gary Groth, Michael Dean, and Kristy Valenti (Fantagraphics)
* The Comics Reporter, produced by Tom Spurgeon and Jordan Raphael
* Comics Comics, edited by Timothy Hodler and Dan Nadel (PictureBox)

I think the nominee seal is pretty cool, but it might seem weird affixed to newsprint. The winner seal looks like it will blend in nicely, though, and considering our competition in this category, that’s likely going to be the one we end up using.

No, but seriously, check out those nominees. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but one of these things is not like the others. [EDIT: This is meant to be self-deprecating, folks.] Which really, it would be smarter not to mention. So please pretend I didn’t, and thanks!

I think with you guys and Jonah splitting votes, I might have a chance this year.

I know what you’re getting at Tim, and obviously you’re right, but CBR is the best there is at what it does as far as the super-stuff goes, and it also hosts Chris Mautner co-blog Robot 6, which I read every day. Jonah, meanwhile, is an ethical guy who goes to bat for his writers and reviewers to the point where at least one Big publisher won’t deal with him at all anymore (though maybe that’s changed since last I tuned in, I don’t know). He’s employed me so I’m biased I guess, but part of that employment was letting me interview Matt Furie as San Diego Comic Con coverage, so I think it’s okay. Actually, TCJ and Tom have also employed me, so basically I’m rooting against YOU.

  3. T. Hodler says:

    Hey Sean —

Thanks for your kind words, but I actually thought that Comics Comics was the obvious outlier! I guess that didn’t come through as clearly as I thought it would.

  4. knut says:

Comics Comics doesn’t cover nearly as many birthdays.

  5. Tom Spurgeon says:

That’s all just an excuse to spend the morning eating cake.

Speaking of which, we’re celebrating our fourth Eisner nomination by showing everyone what the site will look like the morning after I have a late-night heart attack and die. So please check that out.
