Looking for Info…

I have quote a good list for the next Art Out of Time, and most of the artists somewhat nailed down. But I’m looking for detailed biographical information of two who remain elusive: Matt Fox and H.G. Peter. Fox has been covered nicely in terms of his basic stats and a nice anecdote from Bhob Stewart, but I don’t know anything beyond that, though I imagine his family is perhaps in the New York area.

H.G. Peter
was the founding artist of Wonder Woman, but the work I’m most interested in was for Heroic Comics (thanks, Dylan!). And beyond a capsule bio in Ron Goulart’s indispensable (and out of print) Encyclopedia of American Comics and some basic stats, I have nothing on him.

So, if anyone out there in comics land has more detailed info on Matt Fox or H.G. Peter, please drop me a line: dan (at) pictureboxinc (dot) com. You’ll be rewarded!

Interesting. I’ve never really known anything about Harry G. Peter beyond Wonder Woman. But if he was the first to draw one of the most popular and memorable superheros in history, how is he someone whose work has been lost somewhere in time? Haven’t his wonder woman comics been reprinted a billion times? Is he any more forgotten than Martin Nodell or any of the other golden age guys who are only, and sometimes barely, known for whatever character or concept they created that eventually managed to become essential to the DC or Marvel universes.
don’t get me wrong, I do want to see him in the next book.

  2. T. Hodler says:

Is there anything about Peter in Les Daniels’s book on Wonder Woman from a few years ago? I haven’t read it, and it does seem like William Moulton Marston usually gets written about more than Peter does in those kinds of things, but it might be worth a look at least.

  3. Dan Nadel says:

Ah, good call, Mr. Hodler. BVS: Well, Peter really is not known past WW. So, he counts as far as I’m concerned, and more interestingly, had a fantastic drawing style seen in Heroic Comics — really great stuff. Whereas Nodell was never that interesting, really.

  4. Frank Santoro says:

get Evan Dorkin to tell you his Mart Nodell stories.

  5. Dan Nadel says:

Those ARE good stories. That reminds me of HeroesCon. That was a fun time, remember? Hey, I crawled/backed in slowly to NYCC this past weekend and found a couple Santoro-worthy nuggets. Well, found some stuff for my book but also some Santoro shit. I had to restrain myself from buying multiple issues of Black Diamond (Ok, I came really close, but not for a buck each! that shit is quarter bin material), but gave in and bought a Pat Mills/Kevin O’Neill DC graphic novel called Metalzoic. It’s pretty awesome!

  6. Dan Nadel says:

Oh, and Metalzoic will not be in the next Art Out of Time. Don’t even ask.

  7. Frank Santoro says:

Love me some Black Diamond. Totally retarded.
