SHAKY ZERO

I wanted to just throw up some images of Shaky Kane’s that I really love, two of which are also in the new paper issue of Comics Comics but are in, um, black and white. (Please look for our giant tabloid of a fanzine at a store near you or here.)

Oh, and if any of our new readers from across the pond have any Shaky stories, Deadline stories, or crazy production “blueline biro” stories about Brett Ewins, please leave a comment, cool? Cool.

Shaky Lives!

I’ve been meaning to ask you if you like Brett Ewins’ stuff. To me it seems pretty staid and square, especially in contrast to the people he was coming up with, but maybe you see something there that’s less obvious? It would even surprise me to learn you thought his compositions were really strong or something.

Brett Ewins is awesome even if he’s not yer cup o’ tea. His strip Johnny Nemo was an interesting mix of genres for the 80s. And he does actually have strong compositions and layouts and great color. He’s a workhorse and was responsible for sort of rounding up a lot of the artists in Deadline. An elder to Hewlett and the “kids” who ruled the roost at Deadline, from what I understand he was the one behind the scenes, pulling strings to make things happen.
