Garf!

Thumbing through my collection of Cartoonist Profiles looking for tips on Hi-Fi stereo equipment, as I am prone to do, I stumbled over this buff nug from issue #40, 1978: An early (the earliest?) story on Jim Davis and “Garfield”. I audibly exclaimed, thanked my Johnny Harts and put down my Frank Robbins and ran to the scanner. Here, kind people, is an early testament.
Bless you and your valuable service to all nations.
The photo of Davis at his drafting table gives one a warm glow, for it looks like the workspace of a man who actually enjoys making art. But…
Er, do my eyes deceive me, or is he brazenly displaying a B. Kliban Cat Calendar over the desk?! I’m not sayin’ anything about it, I’m just sayin’.
That is one buff nug! ha!
“roommate”?!
DAN: YOUR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN HACKED!!!
Jim Davis’ favorite character in “Garfield” is Garfield.
I like this young feller, but the whole three-panel scheme may just blow up in his face!
Boy, he owed a lot to Kliban back then.
