Chester Brown's Paying For It

Normally I wouldn’t post out of turn but I had to share this, especially since I don’t think anyone else has posted it. If Amazon.com is to be trusted, this is the cover for the most eagerly anticipated comic book of 2011, Chester Brown’s Paying For It.

Post Script: It looks like I jumped the gun if not the shark. Sammy Harkham (see comments below) says this is not the cover. Oh well … I guess I’m just too eager to see the book.

Jeet — I think Sammy is saying that he hopes this isn”t the cover. (Not that it isn’t.)

  7. […] Item: Not the cover for the new Chester Brown book, but a very nice place holder, courtesy Jeet Heer. […]

Ah, I misread Sammy’s post. Boy am I screwing up lately. Anyways, I think we’ll have to wait for the actual book to come out and also to give Mr. Brown the benefit of the doubt on this one. He’s often done things that sounded completely insane (“Louis Riel”?!?) but turned out to be great.

Who cares if this is the cover or not? Seriously, I don’t care if this cover looks just like this, printed at 72 dpi on toilet paper. Sign me up.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Chester tonight at the Toronto launch for If ‘n’ Oof and Powr Mastrs 3, and mentioned this cover. He said this will be the cover, but this one is just a “rougher” version-different colour scheme and what not.

He also said that this wasn’t his first choice for a title. He’d wanted to go with something like “I pay for Sex”, but D&Q was worried that it’d be hard to get into more “mainstream” bookstores with a title like that.
