That strip Hayes did in Weirdo # 12 is one of the best ten comics of the century as far as I’m concerned. terrifying, funny, sad, and strangely moving. The energy of it should remind everyone why they wanted to draw comics in the first place!
Seeing that hype can reminds me of OK Cola.
It seems that Weirdo # 12 comic didn’t make it into Demented Wented or am I wrong?
I hope it is – it warranted a chapter (the best one) in Bob Levin’s ‘Freethinkers and Pirates’ book. Is ‘Evolve’ (another of his best) in it, even though it was recently printed in ‘Art Out of Time’?
What I always liked about Hayes was the way it felt like he was drawing it as you were reading it – can’t get more ‘immediate’ than that!
d_w_: If you’re talking about “The Keeper of the Mind”, it’s in there.
Anon.: “Evolve” is in the book, too.
ahh, I wondered, as it was referred to as ‘Popoff Hayes The Drug Fiend’ in the introduction. I thought maybe there was another tale or version or something, anyhow, thanks. The book smokes, thanks for bringing it to light! ‘Evolve’ is included as well.
